The Schengen visa opens the door to 27 European countries with a single application — France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Greece, Portugal, and more. For Indian travellers, understanding the process is the most important step in any Europe trip. Here is the complete 2025 guide.
What is the Schengen Area?
The Schengen Area is a group of 27 European countries that have abolished passport controls at their mutual borders. A Schengen visa allows you to enter any of these 27 countries freely during the visa's validity period.
Which Embassy to Apply At?
Apply at the embassy of the country where you spend the most nights. If equal nights in multiple countries, apply at the country of first entry. Most Indian travellers apply for a French or Italian Schengen visa as they are the most accessible (VFS Global available in all major Indian cities).
