Turkey e-Visa: Asia's Fastest Tourist Visa for Indians
Turkey's e-Visa system is one of the simplest and most efficient in the world — Indian passport holders can apply online in under 10 minutes, pay by credit card, and receive approval within minutes to a few hours. No embassy visit, no interview, no queue, no document submission. The entire process happens on a single webpage. This makes Turkey one of the easiest premium destinations for Indian travellers to reach.
Turkey e-Visa: Key Facts
- Website: evisa.gov.tr (official Turkish government portal — use only this site)
- Fee: USD 50 (approximately ₹4,200) — payable by credit or debit card
- Validity: 180 days from issue date
- Maximum stay: 30 days per visit (single or multiple entry)
- Processing time: Instant to 24 hours in most cases
- Multiple entry: Available (one-time fee)
- Minimum passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 60 days beyond the date of your visa
Warning: Multiple third-party websites impersonate the official Turkish e-Visa portal and charge 2–4x the official fee (up to USD 150+) for the same service. Always apply exclusively at evisa.gov.tr — the official Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal. Any other URL is a third-party agent overcharging for an unnecessary service.
Step-by-Step Application Process
- Go to evisa.gov.tr and click "Apply Now"
- Select your nationality (India) and travel document type (Ordinary Passport)
- Enter your passport details (number, issue date, expiry date)
- Enter your intended arrival date and duration of stay (up to 30 days)
- Enter your personal details (name as in passport, date of birth, email address)
- Review details carefully — errors require a fresh application and repayment
- Pay USD 50 via credit/debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express)
- Receive confirmation email with e-Visa PDF (usually within minutes)
- Print the e-Visa or save on phone — it will be checked at Turkish border control
Documents to Carry (Turkey Border Control)
- Your e-Visa (print or digital copy)
- Valid passport (minimum 60 days validity beyond visa date)
- Return or onward ticket
- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking confirmation)
- Sufficient funds (Turkish border officers rarely ask, but be prepared)
Common Mistakes When Applying
- Wrong website: Only use evisa.gov.tr — see warning above
- Name spelling error: Enter name EXACTLY as in passport. Middle names: only include if in passport. Any mismatch can cause issues at the border.
- Wrong passport number: Double-check every digit
- Applying too early: The e-Visa is valid from the date you specify as arrival. Don't apply 3 months ahead and specify today's date — use your actual planned arrival date
- Passport expiry: Check that your passport has 60 days validity BEYOND your visa date, not just your travel date
Can You Extend the Turkey e-Visa?
The 30-day Turkey e-Visa cannot be extended inside Turkey. If you want to stay longer, you would need to leave Turkey and re-enter (which triggers a new 30-day period on a multiple-entry e-Visa) or apply for a residence permit if staying for extended periods. For most Indian tourists doing 7–14 day Turkey trips, the 30-day allowance is more than sufficient.
