A five-night Bali honeymoon works best split three nights on the coast at Kuta or Legian and two nights in an Ubud private-pool villa. That is the shape of the itinerary below — it is the trip we run most often, written out day by day, with the excursions in the order we actually schedule them.
Most Bali itineraries you will find online are lists of places. This one is a working schedule: it comes from the 5 nights / 6 days package we operate ourselves, so every excursion named below is one that is already included and already sequenced around driving times and the light. Where a day has slack in it, we have said so, because a honeymoon with nothing unscheduled in it is a tour, not a holiday.
The Shape of the Trip
Bali is not a single destination and the island's two halves are genuinely different holidays. The south coast — Kuta, Legian, Seminyak — is beaches, sunsets, beach clubs and the southern temples. Ubud, an hour or so inland and uphill, is rice terraces, jungle river valleys and the private-pool villas that most couples came for in the first place.
Five nights split three-and-two gives you both with only one hotel change. Splitting it four-and-one is not worth the packing; doing all five in one place means either no rice terraces or no beach.
Day 1 — Arrive, and Do Almost Nothing
Land at Ngurah Rai in Denpasar, clear the visa on arrival, and meet your transfer to the hotel at Kuta or Legian. The one instruction we give every couple for day one is to resist filling it. Depending on your connection you will have been travelling ten hours or more, and the single best thing you can do with the remaining afternoon is the beach in front of the hotel and an early dinner.
Tell the hotel at check-in that you are on your honeymoon. Most Balinese hotels respond with a room decoration, a petal bath or a breakfast upgrade, and none of it appears if nobody mentions it.
Day 2 — Nusa Penida
The big day, and it is deliberately early in the trip while you still have the energy for it. Nusa Penida is the island off Bali's southeast coast, reached by fast boat, and it is where the coastline photographs that made you consider Bali actually come from — Kelingking's cliff, the water at Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong.
It is a full day and a genuinely tiring one: the boat crossing is short but the island roads are rough and the walking is real. Snorkelling is included. Expect to be back on the mainland by evening wanting nothing more ambitious than dinner.
Day 3 — Water Sports, Then Uluwatu at Sunset
A gentler morning. Tanjung Benoa on the Nusa Dua peninsula is Bali's watersports strip and it is included in the package — the flat, protected water there is what makes it the right place for it.
The afternoon runs south to Uluwatu, the clifftop temple at the island's southern tip, timed for sunset and the Kecak fire dance in the amphitheatre beside it. The Kecak is chanted rather than played, by a circle of men with no instruments at all, and performed against the sun going down over the Indian Ocean. It is the evening couples most often tell us afterwards they would not have booked for themselves and were glad we had.
Day 4 — The Bali Swing, Then Up to Ubud
Check out from the coast and travel inland, which takes roughly an hour and a half depending on traffic. The Bali Swing is on the way and is included — the swings over the Ayung river valley, which is the other photograph everybody arrives with.
Then check in to the Ubud private-pool villa for the last two nights. The rest of day four is intentionally free. After three busy days it is the point in the trip where the villa is the point of the trip.
Day 5 — Ubud, at Your Own Pace
The one day with nothing scheduled in it, and we keep it that way on purpose. Ubud rewards being unplanned: the Tegallalang rice terraces, the Campuhan ridge walk in the early morning before the heat, the market and the palace in the centre of town, the Sacred Monkey Forest, or simply the villa pool and a long lunch.
This is also the day couples most often add something optional to — a couples spa treatment, a Balinese cooking class, a private dinner. None of those are in the package price and all of them can be arranged; the add-on costs are listed on our cost page rather than buried in a quote.
Day 6 — Home
Breakfast at the villa, then the transfer back to the airport, which is a good two hours from Ubud and longer if you hit traffic. If your flight is an early one we will say so in advance, because the drive is the part of the trip people underestimate.
What Is Already Included
Everything scheduled above — Nusa Penida, the Tanjung Benoa water sports, the Uluwatu sunset and Kecak, the Bali Swing, and every airport and inter-hotel transfer — sits inside the package, along with five nights' accommodation and daily breakfast at both hotels. International airfare, lunches and dinners, travel insurance and optional experiences are not included.

The Seven-Night Version
Plenty of the couples we send to Bali take seven nights instead of five, and the sensible way to do it is not to redesign the trip. The five-night spine above stays exactly as it is, and the two extra nights go to one of three places:
- Two more nights in Ubud. The least ambitious option and often the best one. It turns the single unscheduled day into three, which is what most couples actually want from a honeymoon.
- Two nights on one of the Nusa islands. Instead of visiting Nusa Penida on a day trip, stay out there. Quieter, rougher around the edges, and the closest Bali gets to feeling remote.
- Two nights in the east or north. Sidemen for rice terraces with almost no tourists in them, or the quieter north coast. This is the version for couples who want the least-crowded Bali.
We price the seven-night version on your specific dates rather than publishing a fixed figure, because the extension cost depends entirely on which of those three you pick and when you travel.
Planning Notes
- Book peak dates early. July, August and the end of December are the busiest weeks, and the Ubud pool villas are what sells out first. Three to four months ahead for those; six to ten weeks is comfortable otherwise.
- Do not split the hotels three ways. Two bases in five nights is already one hotel change. Three means a morning of packing in the middle of a short holiday.
- Traffic is the hidden cost of the itinerary. Bali's roads are slow and the distances mislead. Every drive above is built into the plan; adding an unplanned cross-island trip usually costs more of the day than it looks like it should.
- Bring cash for the small things. Cards work in hotels and larger restaurants; the warungs, markets and temple donations largely do not take them.
When to Travel
April, May, September and early October give you close to dry-season weather without peak pricing, and they are the months we recommend most. July and August are the most reliable weather and the most expensive. For the month-by-month detail see the best time to visit Bali.

How many days do you need for a Bali honeymoon?
Five nights is the practical minimum for a first Bali honeymoon, split three nights on the coast and two in Ubud. That is enough to see both sides of the island without spending the holiday in a car. Seven nights is more comfortable and lets you add a third area or simply slow the middle of the trip down.
Is it better to stay in Kuta, Seminyak or Ubud?
It is not really a choice between them — the trip works best split. The coast around Kuta and Legian gives you beaches, sunsets and easy access to the southern temples and water sports, while Ubud gives you rice terraces, jungle and the private-pool villas. Doing one and not the other is the most common regret we hear.
Which order should we do it in, beach first or Ubud first?
We usually run the coast first and Ubud second. You arrive tired, and the beach end is closer to the airport and easier on the first day; finishing in an Ubud pool villa gives the honeymoon a quieter last two nights. If you have an early morning flight home, we sometimes reverse it.
