Do Indians need a visa for Bali?

Yes. Bali is part of Indonesia and there is no visa-free entry for Indian passport holders. What you need is Indonesia’s visitor visa, which most travellers know by the name of its electronic version, the e-VoA. India appears on the list of nationalities eligible to apply, published on Indonesia’s official e-Visa portal, alongside Ngurah Rai in Bali as one of the airports where holders of that visa are allowed to land.

You have two routes to the same document. You can apply online before you fly and arrive with the visa already issued, or you can take the visa on arrival at the airport, which is what the “VoA” in e-VoA refers to. Applying ahead is the calmer option in peak season, when the arrival counters at Denpasar back up badly.

How much does a Bali visa cost for Indians?

The visitor visa fee is IDR 500,000. The official portal also notes that paying by debit or credit card can add a charge of its own, set by your bank rather than by Indonesian immigration, so the rupee amount that lands on your statement will be slightly higher than a straight conversion.

The fee is per person with no family rate and no child discount. A couple therefore pays IDR 1,000,000 between them before anything else, and a family of four pays IDR 2,000,000.

How long can Indians stay in Bali on this visa?

Thirty days, counted from the date you arrive. This is the detail that trips people up most often, because the visa also carries a 90-day validity period, and the two numbers mean different things. The 90 days is how long the visa remains usable — the window in which you must enter Indonesia. The 30 days is how long you may stay once you have entered. If you land on day 89 of the validity window, you still get your full 30 days.

To stay longer, the official portal says you must apply for a residence permit extension at an Immigration Office inside Indonesia. Do not simply run over the date: the same portal warns that overstaying can mean a fine of IDR 1,000,000 per day, detention, deportation and a ban on future travel to Indonesia.

What is the Bali tourist levy and do Indians pay it?

Yes, you pay it, and it is not part of the visa. Bali charges every foreign tourist a one-time levy of IDR 150,000 per person, paid through the provincial Love Bali system either online before you travel or at cashless counters at the airport and at Benoa port. Keep the QR code you are issued; it can be checked at some attractions.

So the true cost of simply being allowed into Bali, per person, is IDR 500,000 for the visa plus IDR 150,000 for the levy. Budget both, and budget them for every member of the family.

Do children need their own Bali visa?

Yes. Indonesia’s official e-Visa site is explicit that each traveller must hold a separate visitor visa, including infants and children, even where a child is included in a parent’s passport. A child travelling on a parent’s passport still needs a visa of their own at the full IDR 500,000.

What does the visa cost on top of a Bali holiday?

It is worth seeing the visa in proportion to the trip. Applying from Bangalore or Coimbatore

Because the e-VoA is applied for online or taken on arrival, there is no visa centre visit and no city-by-city difference in the process — the application is the same whether you are flying out of Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Chennai or anywhere else in India.
